Foster Grandparent Program

The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) matches low-income older persons with children who need personal attention and special help in schools, hospitals, juvenile detention facilities, day care centers, community programs and private homes. Foster Grandparents serve 20 hours per week and, in return for their services, receive a tax-free stipend which does not affect other benefits or services they may be receiving. In addition, the volunteers receive transportation assistance, insurance, a daily meal and annual medical check-up. All Foster Grandparents complete 40 hours of orientation prior to service and are required to participate in monthly in-service training sessions. Potential volunteers must be 55 years of age or older and have income at or below 200% of the HHS established level of poverty.
